If you’ve seen those “error” pop-ups while using Viral Vue in the Amazon Influencer Program, don’t worry. You’re just experiencing what’s called being rate limited. Here’s a quick breakdown of what it means, why it happens, and how to avoid it.
What Does “Rate Limited” Mean?
Being rate limited means Amazon has temporarily paused your activity because too much data is being pulled too quickly. When this happens, you might see an error page (sometimes even one of the Amazon dogs). The pause typically lasts anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours, after which everything returns to normal. This isn’t a penalty, it’s Amazon’s way of protecting its platform from bots and excessive data requests.
What Causes It
Here are the two most common reasons influencers get rate limited:
- Scrolling Too Much in Creator Connections
If you’re endlessly scrolling through campaigns, loading hundreds of products without filters, Amazon detects heavy activity. All that data loading triggers their internal safety systems, leading to a temporary rate limit.
How to Avoid It:
Use filters or search for specific product categories instead of endlessly scrolling. This narrows your data pull and helps you stay under Amazon’s limits.
- Running “Accept Related Campaigns” Too Aggressively
The Accept Related Campaigns tool is one of Viral Vue’s most powerful time-savers, it automatically finds and accepts campaigns for products you’ve already made videos for. But if you combine that process with other Amazon activities (like browsing your storefront or opening multiple Amazon tabs), the system reads it as heavy usage, and rate limits your account.
Pro Tip:
Let Viral Vue finish scanning before opening new Amazon tabs. The system already runs at an optimized speed designed to avoid triggering Amazon’s limits.
Why It Matters
Understanding rate limiting is key to:
Protecting your workflow: Avoid unnecessary delays or disruptions.
Working smarter: Use filters and automation safely.
Maximizing productivity: Spend less time waiting, more time creating.
Avoiding confusion: Recognize that these errors aren’t account bans or technical bugs, just temporary pauses.
In short, learning to manage rate limits helps you stay efficient and confident while scaling your Amazon influencer efforts.
What To Do If You’re Rate Limited
Close your Amazon tabs.
Wait 15 minutes to 2 hours.
Avoid logging in from another device on the same Wi-Fi, rate limits apply to your IP address, not just your computer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will being rate limited affect my Amazon account health or influencer status?
No. It’s just a temporary cooldown, it doesn’t affect your standing or content.
How can I tell if I’m rate limited versus a different error?
You’ll often see loading delays, missing data, or Amazon’s “dog error” page. If it resolves after a short break, that’s a rate limit.
Why does Viral Vue run slower during Accept Related Campaigns scans?
That slower speed is intentional. It’s optimized to prevent rate limiting while still efficiently finding all your eligible campaigns.
What can I do to avoid getting rate limited?
Here are some tips to help reduce the chances of hitting a rate limit:
1.Purchase on Amazon regularly. The more you purchase, the more Amazon trusts your IP address.
2.Turn off Auto Refresh on Creator Studio, Creator Hub, and Storefront. You may have tabs open refreshing in the background without realizing it. Only refresh Creator Studio when using the Optimizer. Once optimized you won't need to do it again for several weeks.
3.Close unnecessary tabs. Having too many Amazon tabs open at the same time increases the chances of getting rate limited.
4.Set throttling to Medium, Strict, or Very Strict in the Viral Vue extension settings under Customization.
5.Avoid running multiple extensions at the same time.
6.Space out your automations and don't run them more than necessary. For example, Auto Linked ASINs and Tagged ASINs only need to run twice a week. Submit Content doesn't need to run daily. Don't run all Affiliate+ campaign automation settings at the same time or back to back. Run 48 hours and URL Vue links together, Tagged ASINs separately, and Auto Linked ASINs separately on different days.
7.Send bucket messages in batches of 20-40 at a time instead of 100+ at once. Space out follow ups as well.
I'm already rate limited. What should I do?
Stop what you're doing and don't keep trying. Take a break for at least an hour before trying again to allow Amazon to reset.
