The Break Even Calculator is a built-in Viral Vue feature that tells you, before you spend a single dollar, whether purchasing a product to review is actually worth it.
Instead of guessing whether a product will pay for itself, the calculator pulls in real listing data: price, daily sales, commission rate, Creator Connections bonus, and campaign days remaining, and turns it into one simple answer: how many days until you break even, and how much profit comes after that.
Why It Matters
Buying products to review is one of the fastest ways to grow your Amazon influencer commissions, but it only works if you're buying the right products. Without a clear picture of the numbers, it's easy to:
- Buy a product that never recoups its cost before the campaign ends
- Miss high-potential products because the opportunity wasn't obvious
- Waste time on manual math across spreadsheets or gut-feel decisions
The Break-Even Calculator removes the guesswork. It shows you exactly how fast a product will pay for itself and what happens after, so every purchase becomes a calculated decision instead of a gamble.
How to Use It
1. Find a product with Creator Connections. The calculator works best (and shows the biggest upside) on products with an active Creator Connections bonus.
2. Open the calculator from the product listing or Product Vue table.
3. Choose your mode:
- Top Carousel – assumes your video reaches the top carousel spot. Best for creators confident they can outperform the current competition.
- Standard – factors in the total influencer video count, giving a more conservative estimate based on existing competition.
4. Review the auto-filled inputs:
- Price
- Units sold in the last 30 days
- Attribution rate (default: 1 sale per 100 units, adjust based on your own account performance)
- Existing Influencer Videos
- Your Videos
- Commission rate
- Creator Connections bonus
- Days left in the campaign
- Customize the Calculator settings:
- Content Lead Time – how many days it will realistically take you to receive the product, film it, and upload the video.
- Break-Even Goal – the number of days you want your investment to pay back within (e.g., 15, 30, 60 days).
5. Read the result. The calculator will tell you your estimated days to break even and monthly profit, and flag whether the product meets your break-even goal or falls short.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why does Creator Connections make such a big difference in the results?
Creator Connections products come with a bonus commission on top of the standard rate, which significantly shortens the time it takes to break even. Products without Creator Connections often take much longer, sometimes 100+ days, to pay for themselves.
What does the attribution rate mean?
It connects your Amazon Influencer account to Viral Vue and pulls in your video data to analyze its placement and other key data points.
What is Content Lead Time and why should I adjust it?
It's the number of days between purchasing the product and getting your video live. If shipping or filming takes longer, your break-even timeline stretches out and a product that looked profitable might miss the campaign window. Setting this accurately keeps your estimates realistic.
